Acceptable forms of identification for candidates – Original documents only


General identification document rules

  • Documents must be original and still valid. Photocopies or expired (out of date) documents will not be accepted.
  • Documents must contain a photograph that is a true likeness of the candidate.
  • The document presented on the day of the test to confirm your identity must be the same document you used to register and book the test.
  • The details used to book your test must be as stated on the document provided. If you have changed your name you must also provide evidence in Section 2.
The acceptable ID'S are

Passport, Biometric Residence Permit, Biometric Residence Card, Government National Identity Cards (outside UK), Identity Cards of EEA Nationals, and Travel Documents

Biometric Residence Permit


Acceptable for:
• Tests taken in the UK
• Tests taken outside the UK














Biometric Residence Card


Acceptable for:
• Tests taken in the UK
• Tests taken outside the UK
















Valid photographic Government issued identity cards


Acceptable for:
• Tests taken outside the UK in the country where the document is issued
















Identity cards of EEA nationals


Acceptable for:
• Tests taken in the UK
• Tests taken outside the UK in the country where the document is issued
















The following travel documents


• Convention travel document
• Stateless persons travel document
• Travel document issued by the United Nations
• Travel documents issued by the
International Red Cross
Acceptable for:
• Tests taken in the UK
• Tests taken outside the UK
Emergency travel documents will not be accepted as proof of identity.










Notes - The EEA includes the European Union (EU) countries and Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland. European Union countries are: Austria, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Republic of Cyprus, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, Malta, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Slovenia, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden.
